BETHUNE HOUSE
Reginald and Marion Bethune built this house in 1913 and occupied it for thirty-two years. Reginald was a prominent citizen who was an Imperial Bank manager, the Provincial Tax Collector, President of the Native Sons of Canada, served as Board Chairman of the Royal Inland Hospital, and greeted the Duke and Duchess of Connaught at the hospital's opening in 1912. Marion was an active member of the Ladies' Auxiliary to the Royal Inland Hospital in 1916 and its vice-president in 1918.
Original exterior features of this Craftsman style house include cedar shingle and wood siding, brick foundation, leaded glass windows, and full verandah wrapping the back and side of the house. The interior includes fir wall panels and ceiling beams in the dining room, wainscot on both levels, panel doors, and two sets of pocket doors. Other original items are a staircase with banister, oak and fir floors, and a brick fireplace.
