BURTON HOUSE
The Burton house which celebrated its centenary in 2005 was built as the family home of Sidney Charles Burton and his wife Jane Ann. In 1920, S. C. Burton was elected mayor of the City of Kamloops by acclamation while Jane Ann served as the president of the Royal Inland Hospital Auxiliary.
At the time of construction this house stood out as one of the prominent dwellings in the city and featured bay windows, wrap around verandahs, feather-edged shiplap siding and leaded glass windows. The southeast corner of the house originally had a glassed-in conservatory where Sidney put his skill at growing flowering hibiscus plants into practice.
