CAPTAIN WORSNOP HOUSE

187 CONNAUGHT RD.jpg This house was built in 1912 by Captain T. H.Worsnop, a seaman and former Port Warden of Vancouver. He was a prominent citizen who had a position with the Land Registry and owned the Inland Sentinel. His marriage to James McIntosh's widow, Hermanse, who was an accomplished pianist and children's concert organizer, made the house a social gathering place for locals and English nobility like the Duke of Connaught and the Marquis of Anglesey. The servants' house is located in the backyard.

Exterior features include a mixture of styles and of note are the twin peaks of the roof, English bay windows with stained glass, and the clapboard and shingle siding. Worsnop's nautical past is reflected in the sweeping verandah that resembled a ship deck. Interior features include a ballroom, rosewood staircase, wall paneling, and large fireplaces.
