ST. JOSEPH'S CHURCH

200 CHILCOTIN WAY.jpg Located on the site of the historic Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc village, St. Joseph's has been a landmark since it was constructed in the nineteenth century. Its history goes back to 1846 when a log church was built on this site. This was discovered during a restoration project when a hewn log floor was found underneath the existing floor. The church has been through numerous alterations. In 1900 the old log church was demolished except for its tower and a new frame structure built around it. The last full restoration took place in 1985 when over 12,000 hours of community time was given to the project.

If you visit the site please respect the land of the Tk'emlúps te Secwépemc and do not enter the cemetery.
