FORT HOUSE

300 FORTUNE DR.jpg Generally known as Fort House because it was built on land near the Hudson’s Bay fur trading fort that was located just to the south of it between 1842 - 1862. When the fort was moved to Mission Flats BC Fruitlands Co. bought the land and then sub-divided it into smaller lots after 1906.

Archie Davis, a railwayman, and his wife built this house in 1907 on an extensive acreage. Later, A.W. Haines ran a Holstein dairy farm on this land. In 1942 Arthur Hatton, an engineer with the Water Rights Branch and his wife Dorothy bought it. He was elected Commissioner for the Village of North Kamloops in 1946 and was re-elected numerous times. Architecturally, the house is a wood frame classic box style popular at the turn of the century. It features a cottage style roof with an eyebrow dormer, multi-pane windows and shiplap siding.
